What’s in my protein shake?
Health and Fitness are a big part of who I am. I want to be here with and for my children for as long as I possibly can. It is more than a hobby. It’s a lifestyle. Today I am sharing my absolute favorite post workout protein shake. It’s clean. It’s packed with vitamins and nutrients. I am not a calorie counter, but for those of you that are keeping track this shake tallies in between 450 and 550 calories. This is a meal, not a snack. Check it out. Try it out. I promise you won’t be disappointed!
I buy all of my ingredients from Whole Foods. I believe that you can also purchase Orgain products on Amazon as well. I love the Orgain Simple protein powder. It’s exactly that, simple with no artificial nonsense. It is vegan, dairy and gluten free if that is what you need. It does, however, contain nuts and seeds for those of you with nut allergies. There are a few different flavors, but I am a loyal chocolate girl. In addition to the protein powder, I also use a scoop of the Orgain Superfoods Probiotic. It helps keep things regular, if you know what I saying? The peanut butter that I use is the 365 brand Organic Creamy Peanut Butter and it is by far my favorite organic peanut butter. I also sub sometimes with the 365 almond butter or cashew butter as well. Also, very delicious. I like using frozen strawberries instead of fresh just for texture. No other reason. I prefer the unsweetened Almond Breeze almond milk. The rest of the ingredients are fresh and organic including fresh spinach, blueberries, carrots (I do the mini because it’s easier to add) and a banana. Do not skip out on that banana! That banana is really the true star of this shake regarding texture.
Frozen and Pantry Ingredients:
Fresh Ingredients:
To blend the ingredients, I use a Nutribullet blender with the 16oz cup. Yes, this is a big mama shake. It’s meant to fill you up!
Now that you know a little more about what is in my protein shake, let’s get into the recipe. Let me start by saying that I DO NOT MEASURE. I am Italian for goodness sake. We. Don’t. Do. That. I am going to try my best to give you some quantities.
Ingredients (in the order that I stack them in the blender cup):
3/4 “cuppish” ice cubes
5 frozen strawberries
5-7 baby carrots
One huge handful of fresh spinach (I really smash it down in there).
One handful of blueberries
One small or medium banana (also smashed down).
Two scoops of Orgain Simple Chocolate protein powder
One scoop of Orgain Superfoods Probiotic
About two tablespoons of peanut butter (if you want to cut calories a little, do one tbsp).
Pour about 1/4 cup of almond milk in.
Fill to the top with water.
This is what your shake will look like before you blend it:
Blend it up and pour it into a glass or enjoy it straight from the blending cup like I do. I promise you will love it and your body will thank you! I have this shake daily. It’s a quick and easy way to jam pack the good stuff into my diet and I can take it on the go.
